How to pack a week of school lunches

Lunches go smoother when you plan the whole week in one go instead of deciding every morning. Here's a simple system: plan five lunches on Sunday, shop once, prep for 30 minutes, then pack each lunch the night before in 10 minutes.

1. Write down what each kid will actually eat

List 3–5 "always eats" foods, the no-gos, any allergies, and school rules (nut-free? no microwave?). Build every lunch from that list, not from Pinterest.

2. Use a five-slot formula

Main + fruit + veg + snack + water. Reuse one main twice (Tue and Fri pasta salad) so you're not cooking every night.

3. Sample week: 2 kids, under $25, nut-free

TuePasta salad (rotini, cheese, peas)Grapes(in pasta)Yogurt tube

4. Shop from one list sorted by aisle

Produce: apples, grapes, clementines, bananas, baby carrots, cucumbers. Bakery: tortillas, bread. Deli/dairy: sliced turkey, cheese block, yogurt tubes. Pantry: rotini, frozen peas, Italian dressing, crackers, pretzels, popcorn, sunflower butter, jam. See our grocery list by aisle template.

5. Sunday prep (30 minutes)

6. Nightly 10-minute pack

Pull that day's row, add an ice pack, fill the water bottle, fridge it. Note what comes home uneaten and swap it next week.
